What is Stickythings?
---------------------
Stickythings is a program that lets you put "sticky" notes on your
desktop so you can quickly jot down notes, ideas, phone numbers,
whatever. You can give your notes their own special look, and they
will stay there every time you start up Stickythings.

Installation
------------
Firstly, run the Setup program to install the required program files
into the correct directories.

Stickythings 4.0 notes will automatically load in version 4.1. If you
are upgrading from a version of Stickythings prior to 4.0,
unfortunately you will not immediately have access to the notes you
used to have (sorry!). Your old notes are, however, still stored as
text files in the Stickythings directory. You can use the Insert File
command (by right-clicking on a note) to insert the old text into a
new note.

Using Stickythings
------------------
When you first start Stickythings, you will see a new icon in the
System tray (that's the box on the taskbar near the clock). This is
the control centre for all of Stickythings' functions which apply to
the whole environment. Click on the note icon with any button to
bring up the Stickythings menu.

In more detail, the commands on the Stickythings menu are:

 - New Note: create a new note
 - Raise Open Notes: bring all open notes to the top of the screen
(this is good if you have open notes but lose them under other
 windows).
 - Show / Hide Notes: show or hide any number of your notes
 - About Stickythings: info about me and the program
 - Exit Stickythings: Exit the program.

Once you have created a note, enter your text with the keyboard. You
don't have to save the note, it will stay there until you kill it
(even if you quit Stickythings).

To change a note's properties, right-click anywhere on the note. The
Note menu lets you change many aspects of a note, including its font
and colour. You can also rename a note, insert text from a file,
print, cut, copy and paste, as well as kill notes.

If your Windows display setup is less than HighColour (16-bit)
colour, you should only choose pure (undithered) colours or the notes
may look pretty ugly. I recommend you find out whether your video
card supports HighColour and if so get a driver for it, as it makes
lots of programs look MUCH nicer!

When you choose Set as default from the Format sub-menu, the current
note's properties will be inherited by all new notes you create.

The Always On Top option is also handy to keep important notes on top
of all other windows. This is a toggle option, so you can easily
"sink" a note which you get tired of.

When you close a note by clicking on the X button on its title bar,
it is not gone for ever. This will simply hide a note. You can get it
back by choosing Show / Hide Notes from the Stickythings menu in the
system tray. If you really do not want a note any more, choose Kill
Note from the note's menu. Once you kill a note you will never get it
back!

If you want StickyThings to come up every time you start Windows,
simply put a shortcut to Stickies.exe into \Windows\Start
Menu\Programs\StartUp.

Shareware Info
--------------
This program is shareware, which means it costs one tenth as much as
normal commercial software, it will hardly kill you to register it.
